Flipbooks AI vs Paperturn: Which Flipbook Maker Fits Your Document?
Both tools turn a finished PDF into a flipbook you open with a link, but they are sold to very different buyers. Paperturn is an enterprise publishing platform with no free plan and a four figure step up to its popular tier. Flipbooks AI is a free plan and three cheap paid ones. This comparison covers what each one really costs, what the trial and the free plan include, where branding shows up, how privacy and embedding work, and who should pick which. Price and feature figures were read from each vendor's published pages in August 2026, and Paperturn's review score comes from their Capterra listing.
Choose Flipbooks AI if your document is already designed and you want it published quickly, password protected and kept off any directory, without a €240 a year floor to publish at all or a €1,116 a year plan just to lock it.
Choose Paperturn if you need enterprise privacy controls such as IP whitelisting, two factor authentication, expiry dates and audit logs, team seats with roles and permissions, lead capture forms or a shopping cart, a white labeled custom domain, or a single publication of up to 2,000 pages. Those are real capabilities Flipbooks AI does not have.

Flipbooks AI wins 8 of these 11 rows and loses none. They are rows we picked, so read them that way. Every figure was checked against Paperturn's own public pages in August 2026, and the sections below say plainly where Paperturn is the better buy.
Pricing Compared
Paperturn publishes three plans plus a fourth by request. Checked in August 2026, Starter is €20 a month if you commit to a year, which is €240 paid up front, or €33 a month if you pay monthly. Growth, the tier they mark as popular, is €93 a month billed yearly, so €1,116 a year, or €133 a month paid monthly. Business is €321 a month billed yearly, so €3,852 a year, or €399 a month. A Custom tier exists with no published price. One practical note for buyers outside the euro zone: the prices rendered in euros when we checked, including on their United States path, so currency conversion sits on top of every figure above.
Flipbooks AI sells three plans, priced in dollars. Starter is $59 a year and is annual only. Plus is $14 a month or $108 a year. Ultra is $29 a month or $228 a year. Our steps buy capability rather than volume. Every paid tier takes off our corner mark, or swaps it for your own logo, and unlocks brand colours for the reader. Plus adds the embed code and its allowed domain list, along with more page turn effects. Ultra adds background music and a separate password for each reader.
Two numbers decide most of this. The first is the floor. It costs €240 a year to publish anything with Paperturn once the trial ends, against $59 a year here, or nothing at all if the free plan covers you. Even with the exchange rate working against us, that gap does not close. The second is the first upgrade. Paperturn's move from Starter to Growth is roughly 4.6 times the price, €240 to €1,116 a year, and plenty of buyers have to make it, because password protection sits on the far side of it. Our plans never jump like that, and the most expensive thing we sell is $228 a year.
What Each Free Plan Really Gives You
Paperturn does not have a free plan. Their pricing page in August 2026 lists Starter, Growth, Business and Custom, with no zero cost column anywhere on it. The only free way in is a 14 day trial that takes no credit card and can be cancelled at any time, which their own FAQ calls the free 14 day trial. What that trial actually allows is the part we cannot answer for you. How many publications you get, what page cap applies, and whether anything you publish during it stays live afterwards are not stated on any Paperturn page we could read, so ask their support before you upload something you need to keep online.
Our free plan is smaller in scope and permanent. You keep three flipbooks live at a time with 1 GB of storage, using the magazine page turn effect, and free flipbooks carry a small Flipbooks AI mark in the corner. There is no page cap on the document you upload, no ad beside the reader, no trial clock and no card. The part most people do not expect is that a single shared password works on the free plan, so a private document does not force an upgrade. Deleting a flipbook frees its slot straight away.
These two are not really the same offer, and it is worth being straight about that. A fortnight with no credit card is a genuinely low friction way to evaluate an expensive tool, and Paperturn sells capabilities we do not sell at any price. But a trial is an evaluation window, not a home for a document. If you want a menu, a programme or a one off report to sit quietly on a link for the next two years at no cost, only one of these two products offers that, and if a single document has to run to hundreds or thousands of pages, only the other one does.
Branding and Watermarks
Neither tool hands you a clean flipbook for free, and any comparison that claims otherwise about its own product is not worth reading. Paperturn's trial flipbooks carry Paperturn branding. Their FAQ puts it plainly: the feature that disables Paperturn branding is only available with their Pro subscription, and neither the free 14 day trial nor the Basic subscription gives access to it. They describe the mark itself as a minimal amount of branding, consisting of their logo in the loading sequence of your flipbook and in the flipbook viewer.
There is a problem with that answer, and it belongs to their documentation rather than to us. Basic and Pro are not plans you can buy today. The live pricing page sells Starter, Growth, Business and Custom, and its comparison table carries no row at all for removing Paperturn's own branding. The branding section of that table covers your branding instead: the global design, the branded favicon, the account name subdomain, white labeled custom domains, the branded loading sequence and vanity links. So the honest answer to which current Paperturn plan gives you an unbranded flipbook is that their published pricing does not say, and we are not going to guess on their behalf. Get it in writing from their sales team before you pay.
Ours is a shorter answer. The corner mark comes off on every paid tier, starting at $59 a year, and you can either drop branding entirely or put your own logo in its place. Brand colours for the reader controls unlock on that same $59 plan. Where Paperturn is genuinely ahead is everything that is not about their own logo: a branded favicon and an account name subdomain from Starter, one white labeled custom domain on Growth, and five domains plus vanity links and a custom loading sequence on Business. We do not sell custom domains at all. If your flipbook has to live at your own company address, that single fact decides it.
Privacy and Who Can Find Your Flipbook
Paperturn's help centre states that the default setting on your flipbook is always public, and public there means openly reachable by its link and easy to share across channels. Switching a publication to private restricts access and shows a message you can write yourself. Locking it with credentials is a plan feature: the password protection row is unchecked on Starter and checked on Growth and Business, so the cheapest plan that can password a publication is €1,116 a year. Mechanically it is a username and password pair, set only once the publication is private, and only one pair can be created per publication. Advanced privacy controls are Business only.
Search engines are a separate row on their table, labelled Search Engine Indexing, unchecked for Starter and checked for Growth and Business. Paperturn does not explain whether that means indexing is switched off for Starter publications or simply that the SEO controls are unavailable, so we will describe the row and stop short of the conclusion. Their FAQ does document an owner side control: click Edit in the top menu, then uncheck Search engines. On our side, a flipbook is reachable by its link, is never listed in any directory of ours, and is never submitted to search engines by us. A shared password works on the free plan, and per reader passwords are an Ultra feature.
Two honest caveats. On Flipbooks AI a password gates the reader interface rather than the underlying file, so it should not stand in for a proper access controlled document store. Paperturn sells deeper controls on top of its password, including disabling downloads and blocking printing and copying. And on deep privacy it is further ahead of us than that one comparison suggests: their security page also lists IP address whitelisting to restrict viewing to a corporate network or specific ranges, two factor authentication on team accounts, expiry dates on time sensitive publications, audit logs that track who viewed what and when, encryption at rest and in transit, GDPR compliance and 99.9% uptime. We have nothing of that depth. If a compliance officer is in the room, Paperturn wins this section outright.
Embedding and Sharing
Paperturn's embedding story needs care, because their pricing table splits it across four rows that do not share a tier. Embed publication on website is ticked for Starter, Growth and Business. Iframe integrations is unticked for Starter and ticked for Growth and Business. Embed publication in email and email signature embed follow the same line, Growth and above. Paperturn never defines how the first row differs technically from the second, so what a Starter customer can really do with a true iframe is genuinely ambiguous, and we are not going to resolve that ambiguity in our own favour. Their feature page describes embedding as one line of code, sized responsively, with updates syncing automatically, and names no plan requirement there.
We are the simpler product here and, at entry level, the less generous one. The embed code and its allowed domain list start on our Plus plan, at $14 a month or $108 a year. Neither the free plan nor the $59 Starter includes them. If dropping a flipbook inside your own site on the cheapest paid plan is the deciding factor, Paperturn's Starter lists website embedding and ours does not, and pretending otherwise would not help you. What our allowed domain list adds, once you are on Plus, is control over which sites may frame the flipbook at all.
Plain link sharing is where most flipbooks actually live. On Flipbooks AI a reader clicks a link and the flipbook opens in the browser with no account, no app and no download, and Paperturn's publishing page describes the same for downloads, saying no downloads are required and readers can access them instantly with one click. Paperturn then layers reporting and distribution on top as you climb. Basic analytics covering views, clicks, geolocation, device and downloads come in from Starter, then QR codes, Google Analytics 4 and video or link insertion at Growth, then Google Tag Manager, bulk link import and vanity links at Business. If measuring who opened what is part of the job, read that list closely before you decide.
Ease of Use and What Each Tool Is For
Paperturn is built for organisations that publish as a job. The Business tier carries 10 users with roles and permissions, activity logs, lead capture forms, a shopping cart, bulk link import, per page meta titles and descriptions, automated SEO text you can edit, five white labeled domains and a dedicated success manager. The document ceilings match that ambition, at 500 pages and 256MB per publication on Growth and 2,000 pages and 512MB on Business, which is a high ceiling for a single document. Buyers rate the result 4.9 out of 5 across 141 reviews on Capterra, with customer service scored 4.8 across 117 reviews, a sample large enough to mean something.
Their accessibility work deserves a mention of its own, because it is unusually honest. The reader ships an accessibility widget offering contrast modes, larger text, a dyslexia friendly font, highlights, keyboard navigation, text to speech and zoom, and they say the built in controls support screen reader workflows and tabbing. Then they publish the limit of their own claim: for formal WCAG conformance, pair your flipbook with a tagged PDF or HTML alternative. A vendor that tells you where its feature stops is being straight with you about the part that works.
Flipbooks AI answers a narrower question: my PDF is finished, how do I get it online. You upload the file, choose a page turn effect, set a password if the document is private, and share the link. There is no template gallery, no page editor, no custom domain, no team seats and no API, because the design work already happened wherever the PDF was made. If you need roles, lead capture or a shopping cart, this is not your tool and we would rather say so now. If you need one finished document online today, privately, for very little money, that narrowness is the whole point.
Who Should Choose Which
Choose Flipbooks AI if
Your PDF is already designed and you only need it online, readable and shareable by link
You want a password on a private document without moving to a €1,116 a year plan to get one
You want the tool's own mark removed for a price you can read on a pricing page, $59 a year
You want a permanently free option rather than a 14 day trial with no free tier waiting behind it
Choose Paperturn if
You need enterprise privacy controls: IP whitelisting, two factor authentication, expiry dates, blocked downloads and printing, and audit logs of who viewed what and when
You need team seats with roles and permissions, lead capture forms, a shopping cart, Google Analytics 4 or Google Tag Manager
You need a white labeled custom domain or vanity links, which Flipbooks AI does not offer at any price
You want their reader accessibility widget, with contrast modes, a dyslexia friendly font, text to speech and keyboard navigation, plus honest guidance on where it stops
How to Switch from Paperturn to Flipbooks AI
There is no import step, because a flipbook is always built from a source document. If you still have the PDF you uploaded, the move takes about as long as one upload.
Get the original PDF back. A Paperturn publication is built from a PDF you uploaded, so start from that source file rather than anything exported out of the reader. If the original is gone, re-export it from the design file it came from so the text stays selectable and any internal links survive the move.
Write down everything that lives only inside Paperturn. Video and link insertion, QR codes, lead capture forms, the shopping cart, per page meta and SEO text, Google Analytics 4 or Tag Manager tags and any vanity links were added inside their platform, not into your PDF, so none of it travels with the file. List what is on which page before you cancel, because that list is what you decide to rebuild or drop.
Note how each publication is locked today. On Growth and Business, a private publication is gated by a single username and password pair, and only one pair exists per publication. Decide what replaces it here before you move: a shared password works on our free plan, and Ultra gives each reader their own password instead of one credential passed around.
Upload the PDF to Flipbooks AI and publish. Drop the file on the create page. There is no page cap, so a long catalogue or an annual report goes up whole rather than being trimmed to fit a plan. Pick a page turn effect, add the password if the document is private, and the flipbook is live on a link we never list in a directory and never submit to search engines.
Repoint every old link before the plan lapses. Custom domain addresses, vanity links, printed QR codes, email signature embeds and any iframe on your site still point at Paperturn, and there is no free tier to fall back on once the subscription ends. Swap them first and keep the Paperturn plan running until you have. If a publication was indexed, ask the search engine to drop the old URL rather than waiting for it to disappear.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Paperturn have a free plan?
No. Checked in August 2026, their pricing page lists Starter, Growth, Business and Custom with no zero cost tier. The only free entry is a 14 day trial that needs no credit card and can be cancelled at any time, and their own FAQ confirms trial flipbooks carry Paperturn branding. The trial's limits, meaning how many publications you get, what page cap applies and whether what you publish stays live afterwards, are not published on any page we could read, so ask their support before you rely on it.
Is Flipbooks AI free, and what is the catch?
It is free with two limits worth knowing up front. Three flipbooks stay live at a time with 1 GB of storage, and free flipbooks carry a small Flipbooks AI mark in the corner. There is no trial clock, no credit card, no ad beside the reader and no page cap on the document you upload. A single shared password works on the free plan. Paid plans start at $59 a year, which removes the corner mark and unlocks brand colours.
How much does Paperturn cost?
Read from their pricing page in August 2026: Starter is €20 a month billed yearly, which is €240 a year, or €33 a month paid monthly. Growth is €93 a month billed yearly, which is €1,116 a year, or €133 a month. Business is €321 a month billed yearly, which is €3,852 a year, or €399 a month. A Custom tier exists but no price is published. The figures rendered in euros even on their United States path, so expect conversion on top if you pay in dollars.
Which Paperturn plan do I need to password protect a flipbook?
Growth, at €93 a month billed yearly or €1,116 a year. The password protection row on their comparison table is unchecked for Starter and checked for Growth and Business. Mechanically you switch the publication to private first, then set a username and password pair, and only one pair can be created per publication. Advanced privacy controls are Business only. On Flipbooks AI a shared password works on the free plan, and Ultra gives each reader an individual password.
Which Paperturn plan removes Paperturn's own branding?
You cannot tell from their pricing page, which is an unsatisfying answer but the only accurate one. The comparison table has no row for removing Paperturn branding at all, and the only documentation that answers the question points to a Pro subscription, a plan name that no longer appears on the live pricing page alongside Starter, Growth, Business and Custom. Ask their sales team in writing before paying. On Flipbooks AI every paid tier from $59 a year removes our mark or replaces it with your logo.
Can I embed a Paperturn flipbook on the cheapest plan?
Partly, and the detail matters. Embed publication on website is ticked for Starter, but iframe integrations, embed publication in email and email signature embed are all Growth and above. Paperturn does not define how the first differs technically from the second, so treat iframe support on Starter as unresolved and ask Paperturn's support to confirm it in writing before you commit to a plan. On Flipbooks AI the embed code and allowed domain list start on Plus, at $14 a month or $108 a year.
How many pages can one flipbook have?
Paperturn caps each publication by plan: 250 pages and 128MB on Starter, 500 pages and 256MB on Growth, and 2,000 pages and 512MB on Business. Their FAQ claims unlimited pages, but the pricing table sets those caps and that same FAQ still describes plan names that have been retired, so the pricing table is the figure to trust. Flipbooks AI sets no page cap, so a long report goes up whole. Free storage here is 1 GB.
Will my flipbook show up in Google or on a public directory?
On Paperturn, the help centre states that the default setting on your flipbook is always public, which they describe as being reachable by its link. Search Engine Indexing is a plan row, unchecked for Starter and checked for Growth and Business, and they do not explain what unchecked means in practice; their FAQ shows an owner side toggle under Edit. We found nothing describing a browsable public gallery of customer publications either way. A Flipbooks AI flipbook is reachable by its link only, is never listed in a directory, and is never submitted to search engines by us.
Do readers need an account to open a flipbook?
Not on ours. A reader opens the link in any modern browser, with no account, no app and no download. Paperturn describes the same reader experience, saying no downloads are required and readers can access publications instantly with one click, although they never state in those words that no account is needed. One exception to plan for: a private Paperturn publication on Growth or Business opens with a username and password pair, one pair per publication, so readers share a credential you hand out.
Is Paperturn a bad product, and when should I pick it instead?
No, and a comparison that said so would waste your time. Their Capterra listing holds 4.9 out of 5 across 141 reviews, with customer service at 4.8 across 117 reviews. Pick Paperturn when you need enterprise privacy controls such as IP whitelisting, two factor authentication and audit logs, team seats with roles, lead capture or a shopping cart, a white labeled custom domain, or a single publication of up to 2,000 pages. Pick us when one finished PDF needs to be online cheaply, privately and today.
