Flipbooks AI vs 3D Issue: Which Flipbook Tool Fits Your PDF and Your Budget?

3D Issue is a mature enterprise publishing suite, and its flipbook product is now called Replicate rather than Flipbooks. It has no free plan of any kind, its published floor is $99 a month billed annually, and its own domain carries three contradictory price lists. It also does things Flipbooks AI cannot: per reader logins with expiry dates, self hosting on your own infrastructure, and ADA compliant publishing. This comparison covers what each tool costs, what the 14 day trial does and does not tell you, where each one is silent, and who should pick which. Every 3D Issue figure was read from its own pricing page, product pages, knowledge base and blog in August 2026.

Founder of Flipbooks AI

The Short Answer

Choose Flipbooks AI if your document is already designed and you want it online, unbranded and password protected without committing four figures a year. The free plan keeps three flipbooks live with no trial clock, a shared password costs nothing, and $59 a year removes our corner mark and unlocks brand colours.

Choose 3D Issue if you need per reader logins rather than one shared password, with individual accounts, bulk import, expiry dates and fail locks, or authentication against your own user database over a REST API. Also if you must host the published output on your own servers, if ADA compliant publishing is a procurement requirement, or if you want a print PDF rebuilt into responsive mobile articles. Those are real capabilities Flipbooks AI does not have at any price.

Flipbooks AI wins 8 of these 11 rows, ties 3 and loses none. They are rows we picked, so read them that way. Every figure was checked against 3D Issue's own public pages in August 2026, and the sections below say plainly where 3D Issue is the better buy.

Pricing Compared

3D Issue sells three plans on one live pricing page, and the flipbook product sits on the cheapest of them. Replicate is $99 a month billed annually, or $149 a month if you pay monthly. Flow is $149 billed annually or $199 monthly. Studio is $299 billed annually or $349 monthly. Those annual rates are quoted as per month figures, so the actual commitment for one user works out at roughly $1,188, $1,788 and $3,588 a year. We read the page in August 2026. Note also that the prices show a bare dollar sign with no currency labelled anywhere on it.

Budgeting from their own website is harder than it should be, because three different price lists live on the same domain. The live pricing page is one. A knowledge base article last updated on 9 September 2020 quotes Professional at US $900 a year and Enterprise at US $1,999 a year. A post on the vendor's own blog quotes Professional at $75 a month, Enterprise at $167 and Partner at $419. The last two use tier names that no longer appear anywhere on the live pricing page, so treat only that page as current. Seat options of 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 users and a Partner tier are offered, but only the single user price is displayed, so a real team quote means contacting them. Every plan lists 1 Brand and 100 Publications included.

Flipbooks AI sells three plans in US dollars and publishes one price list. Starter is $59 a year and is sold annually only. Plus is $14 a month or $108 a year. Ultra is $29 a month or $228 a year. The steps buy capability rather than volume: every paid tier removes our corner mark, or swaps your own logo in, and unlocks brand colours; Plus adds the embed code and the allowed domain list; Ultra adds background music and per reader passwords. A full year of our most expensive plan, $228, costs less than two months of their cheapest plan billed month to month, $298.

What Each Free Plan Really Gives You

Only one of these tools has a free plan, and it is not 3D Issue. Its pricing page lists no free tier at all. The free access on offer is a time limited trial: the product pages state that you can try Replicate free for 14 days and Flow free for 14 days, and the signup form asks for a name, a work email and a password you choose. What the trial does not tell you matters as much as what it does. Nothing on the trial pages we fetched states whether a card is required, whether trial output carries any 3D Issue mark, or what happens to a published flipbook on day 15, so plan as if none of that is settled.

That makes the honest comparison entry tier against free plan. The cheapest published way to put a flipbook on 3D Issue and keep it there is Replicate at $99 a month billed annually, roughly $1,188 committed up front for one user, or $149 for a single month if you would rather not commit for a year. For that you get the interactive page turn viewer, rich media and forms, secure self hosting and team collaboration, with 1 Brand and 100 Publications included. Whether that 100 is a lifetime or an annual allowance is not stated, and neither is what happens if you go past it.

The Flipbooks AI free plan has no clock on it. Three flipbooks stay live at a time with 1 GB of storage, and deleting one frees the slot immediately. Free flipbooks carry a small corner mark and are limited to the magazine page turn effect, but a single shared password is allowed while you are paying nothing at all, there is no cap on how many pages your document has, no advertising sits beside the reader, and readers open the link without an account. Three is a small number, and anyone publishing weekly will outgrow it, which is what the $59 a year tier is for. Nothing goes dark on a date you forgot about.

Branding and Watermarks

This is the section where we have to say we do not know, because 3D Issue does not publish it. Its pricing comparison matrix has no branding, white label or domain masking row at all, so there is no documented answer to which plan removes 3D Issue branding, and nothing we could fetch states whether a Powered by 3D Issue mark appears inside the viewer. Because there is no free plan there is no free tier branding behaviour to describe either, and whether trial output is marked in any way is simply not written down. That is why no branding row appears in the table above. Scoring it would mean inventing the answer, and an invented answer is worth nothing to you.

What is documented is the part that matters more to a lot of buyers. Domain masking is supported: a CNAME record pointed at cloud.3dissue.net turns a URL like cloud.3dissue.net/123/123/345/345/index.html into flipbooks.yourdomain.com/345/345/index.html, configured under Manage, then Branding, then Advanced, then Domain (CNAME). The knowledge base article describing it was last updated on 1 March 2019 and states no plan requirement and no extra fee, though it also does not affirm that the feature is included on every plan. The flipbook features page separately advertises a customisable splash logo, background image and colour and theme, plus unbranded apps on the App Store and Google Play.

Flipbooks AI is blunt by comparison. A free flipbook carries a small corner mark in the output. Every paid tier removes it, or swaps your own logo into its place, and unlocks brand colours for the reader controls, and the cheapest of those is Starter at $59 a year. There is no higher tier to climb for it and no quote to request. The honest counterweight is that we have no custom domain at any price, so a Flipbooks AI flipbook always lives on our link, while 3D Issue documents a route to serving one from your own subdomain. If the URL itself has to be yours, that gap does not close with money on our side.

Privacy and Who Can Find Your Flipbook

We found no public cross customer directory on 3D Issue, and the wording there is deliberate: no gallery or discovery marketplace of other people's publications turned up in what we fetched, which is not the same as the vendor stating that none exists. The Library feature is frequently misread as one and is close to the opposite. It is your own back issue archive attached to your own publication, letting your readers browse and search your full list of back issues, with no server scripting required. Publications are otherwise served as ordinary cloud URLs, either on cloud.3dissue.net or on a masked customer domain. Login is documented as something the publisher switches on, which implies publications are open by default, but 3D Issue does not state that default anywhere we could fetch.

Reader access control is where 3D Issue is genuinely strong, and it is not close. Portal Login provisions individual reader accounts, added one at a time or by bulk import, and administrators can set expiry dates, fail locks and other controls for users in the portal. Custom Login authenticates against an existing user database over a REST API instead. Login can be triggered when the publication opens, on the first zoom, after a specific page or after a set time has elapsed. The documentation qualifies all of it as available with Cloud Services rather than naming a plan, and the current pricing matrix omits the feature entirely, so which tier carries it is genuinely undocumented. That article was last updated on 6 March 2019.

A Flipbooks AI flipbook is reachable by its link and nothing else. It is never listed in any public directory, we never submit it to search engines, readers need no account, and a single shared password can be set while you are still on the free plan, with per reader passwords on Ultra at $29 a month or $228 a year. One caveat applies to us specifically, and we are not extending it to anybody else: on Flipbooks AI a password gates the reader interface rather than the underlying file, so treat our flipbooks as unlisted rather than as a secure document store. We also have no public or indexed mode at all, so if you want a catalogue found in Google, neither our free plan nor our paid ones will do it.

Embedding and Sharing

3D Issue documents iframe embedding plainly. Its knowledge base article, last updated on 6 May 2021, says each of your publications can be placed easily on your website in various ways, plaintext, hyperlinks and even embedding using iFrames, with a technical note that a secure site needs an https source value, and a lightbox style pop up is referenced as an alternative method. The features page adds iFrame support with additional support for mobile devices. No plan gating for embedding is published anywhere we could fetch, so we will not claim it is restricted to a higher tier and we will not claim it is guaranteed on every tier either. What is certain is the floor: every plan is paid, so nothing under $99 a month billed annually buys you an embed, the 14 day trial aside.

Their real advantage here is ownership of the output. Secure self hosting is listed as included on all three plans, backed by an integrated FTP, SFTP and FTPS uploader that auto uploads publications, by webhook publishing, and by the CNAME masking described above. If your organisation cannot put documents on another company's cloud, or you simply refuse to let your archive depend on a vendor staying in business, that is not a bonus feature, it is the whole decision. Flipbooks AI cannot match it at any price, and no amount of pricing arithmetic changes that.

On Flipbooks AI the embed code and the allowed domain list arrive on Plus, $14 a month or $108 a year, against a published floor of about $1,188 a year on their side. Below Plus you share by link, which costs nothing and works the same way for the reader: a URL that opens in any browser, with no account, no app, no advertising beside the page and no cap on how long the document is. Both tools hand your audience something they just open, so the question this section really answers is what the ability to put it inside your own page costs you.

Ease of Use and What Each Tool Is For

3D Issue is an enterprise publishing suite, and the flipbook is one output of it. Flow adds mobile first editions, smart article extraction, a built in article editor, dual device delivery, ADA compliant publishing, an AI article generator, an AI image generator and a fixed to responsive converter. Studio adds a responsive page design studio and a modular layout builder, so it builds fully responsive digital magazines rather than only converting PDFs. ADA compliant publishing in particular is a procurement requirement for public sector, education and regulated buyers rather than a nice extra, and Flipbooks AI has nothing at all to offer against it.

The friction is administrative rather than technical. The product most people search for, 3D Issue Flipbooks, is now called Replicate, and the old flipbooks.html address quietly serves Replicate content. Key knowledge base articles carry last updated dates spread from 2018 to 2021. The pricing matrix leaves out password protection, analytics, embedding and branding, so it cannot answer the questions buyers actually arrive with, and its silence is not evidence the product lacks those things, because it demonstrably has them. We are also quoting no star rating for 3D Issue on this page: a Capterra restricted search returned no 3D Issue listing, and we verified no score on any other review platform, so repeating one would mean borrowing a number we never checked.

Flipbooks AI answers a much narrower question: my PDF is finished, how do I get it online. Upload the file, pick a page turn effect, set a password if the document is not for everyone, send the link. There is no template gallery, no in tool page editor, no custom domain, no team seats and no API. 3D Issue lists team collaboration on every plan with seat options up to ten users plus a Partner tier, self hosting on all three plans, and a genuine authoring studio at the top. If you need those, buy theirs and do not look back. If you need a clean flipbook on a link this week, the published price difference is roughly twenty to one.

Who Should Choose Which

Choose Flipbooks AI if

  • Your PDF is already designed and you only need it online, readable and shareable this week
  • You want the vendor's mark off your document for $59 a year rather than a four figure annual commitment
  • You need a password or an unlisted link while paying nothing at all
  • You publish occasionally and want your flipbooks to stay live with no trial clock counting down

Choose 3D Issue if

  • You need per reader logins rather than one shared password: individual accounts, bulk import, expiry dates and fail locks in the portal, or authentication against your own user database over a REST API
  • You must host the published output on your own infrastructure, which secure self hosting on all three plans, FTP, SFTP and FTPS auto upload, webhook publishing and CNAME domain masking are all built for
  • ADA compliant publishing is a procurement requirement, which Flow and Studio list and Flipbooks AI does not offer at any price
  • You want a print PDF rebuilt automatically into responsive mobile articles, or a real authoring tool: Flow's smart article extraction and fixed to responsive converter, Studio's page design studio and modular layout builder

How to Switch from 3D Issue to Flipbooks AI

There is no import step, because a flipbook is always built from a source document. If you still have the PDF you uploaded, the move takes about as long as one upload.

  1. Get the source PDF back, not an export. Work from the file you uploaded to 3D Issue rather than anything pulled out of the reader. Its published input requirements are on the file, not the page count: a maximum PDF size of 300 MB and maximum page dimensions of 15 by 15 inches, with fonts embedded, PDF 1.4 recommended, document DPI in the 72 to 300 range and RGB preferred over CMYK. That article was last updated on 2 November 2018. If you ever split or downsampled a document to satisfy those limits, recombine the parts now, because Flipbooks AI sets no page cap on the document you upload.
  2. Write down everything you added inside 3D Issue. Rich media, forms and hyperlinks were added inside 3D Issue's own tools, and nothing we could fetch documents whether any of them can be carried out with your source file. Assume they cannot, and walk each publication page by page noting what sits on it while you still have access. Two things need separate handling: the Library page is a back issue archive attached to your publication rather than content on a single page of it, so record which issues it gathered, and anything produced by Flow's smart article extraction or built in Studio's layout builder was made inside 3D Issue, with no documentation either way on getting it out, so write down what exists before you lose the login.
  3. Record your analytics and reader list while the account is still open. 3D Issue documents built in analytics as a Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager integration, so check where your reporting actually lives before you cancel; whatever reports into your own Google property stays with you either way. Portal Login reader accounts were provisioned individually or by bulk import, with expiry dates and fail locks attached, and that list is managed inside 3D Issue. The vendor does not publish what happens to your content or your access when a trial or a subscription lapses, so do not find out experimentally. Download or screenshot the reports you care about, and record the Portal Login reader list however you can, because bulk import is documented but nothing we could fetch documents an export.
  4. Upload to Flipbooks AI and set the privacy you need. Drop the PDF on the create page, choose a page turn effect, and add a shared password if the document is not for everyone. A shared password works on the free plan, and per reader passwords are on Ultra at $29 a month or $228 a year. Free flipbooks are reachable by link only, are never listed in any public directory and are never submitted to search engines by us. Three flipbooks stay live free with 1 GB of storage, and there is no cap on how many pages each document has.
  5. Repoint every link, including anything on a masked domain, before you cancel. If you used CNAME masking so publications resolved on your own subdomain pointing at cloud.3dissue.net, that DNS record is yours to change, and every URL beneath it needs a new destination. Swap website embeds, email signatures, sent PDFs and printed QR codes over to the new links first, then cancel. Because 3D Issue publishes nothing about what happens to content when a plan or trial ends, move everything while the old links still work rather than cancelling and hoping. Next time use a QR code you control so the destination can change without a reprint.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does 3D Issue have a free plan?

No. Its live pricing page, checked in August 2026, lists no free tier at any level. The only free access is a time limited trial: the product pages say you can try Replicate free for 14 days and Flow free for 14 days, and the signup form asks for a name, a work email and a password you choose. Three things are not published anywhere we could fetch: whether a card is required, whether trial output carries any 3D Issue mark, and what happens to a published flipbook when the 14 days end. Flipbooks AI has a real free plan with no time limit, capped at three live flipbooks and 1 GB of storage.

How much does 3D Issue cost in 2026?

Its live pricing page in August 2026 shows three plans. Replicate, the plan carrying the flipbook product, is $99 a month billed annually or $149 a month paid monthly. Flow is $149 billed annually or $199 monthly. Studio is $299 billed annually or $349 monthly. Those annual rates are per month figures, so one user commits roughly $1,188, $1,788 or $3,588 for the year. Prices show a bare dollar sign with no currency labelled on the page. Seat options of 1, 2, 3, 5 or 10 users and a Partner tier exist, but only the single user price is displayed, so a team price means contacting them.

Why do I see different 3D Issue prices on their own website?

Because there are three price lists on the same domain and they contradict each other. The live pricing page is the current one. A knowledge base article last updated on 9 September 2020 quotes Professional at US $900 a year and Enterprise at US $1,999 a year. A post on the vendor's own blog quotes Professional at $75 a month, Enterprise at $167 and Partner at $419. Both of those use tier names that no longer appear on the live pricing page. Quote only the live page, and if a salesperson references the older figures, ask which list is being invoiced against before you sign anything.

What happened to 3D Issue Flipbooks?

It was renamed. The standalone Flipbooks product name is retired and the flipbook product is now called Replicate, sold alongside Flow and Studio. The old 3dissue.com/flipbooks.html address now serves Replicate content, so a search for 3D Issue Flipbooks lands on a page describing a differently named product. That is worth knowing before you compare feature lists, because much of the surviving documentation, including knowledge base articles dated between 2018 and 2021, still uses the retired naming. When you compare notes with a colleague, agree on which product name each of you is looking at.

Does 3D Issue put a watermark on your flipbooks?

We cannot tell you, and we will not guess. 3D Issue does not publish which plan removes its branding, its pricing comparison matrix has no branding or white label row at all, and nothing we could fetch states whether a Powered by 3D Issue mark appears inside the viewer. Because there is no free plan there is no free tier branding behaviour to describe either, and trial output is not covered. What is documented is domain masking, a CNAME pointed at cloud.3dissue.net, described in a knowledge base article updated on 1 March 2019 that states no plan requirement. Flipbooks AI puts a small corner mark on free flipbooks and removes it, or swaps your logo in, on every paid tier from $59 a year.

Can I password protect a 3D Issue publication?

Yes, and its access control is more capable than a shared password. Portal Login provisions individual reader accounts, added one by one or by bulk import, with admin controls for expiry dates and fail locks. Custom Login authenticates against your existing user database over a REST API instead. Login can be triggered when the publication opens, on the first zoom, after a specific page or after a set time. The documentation qualifies this as available with Cloud Services rather than naming a plan, and the pricing matrix omits the feature entirely, so per tier gating is undocumented. Every plan is paid, so nothing under $99 a month billed annually buys it, and which plan actually carries it is not published. Flipbooks AI allows a shared password on the free plan and per reader passwords on Ultra.

Can I embed a 3D Issue publication on my website?

Yes. Its knowledge base, updated on 6 May 2021, says each of your publications can be placed easily on your website in various ways, plaintext, hyperlinks and even embedding using iFrames, and notes that a secure site needs an https source value. A lightbox style pop up is offered as an alternative, and the features page adds mobile support for iFrames. No plan gating for embedding is published, so we will not say it is restricted and we will not say it is universal. Since there is no free plan, nothing under $99 a month billed annually buys it, the 14 day trial aside. On Flipbooks AI the embed code and the allowed domain list arrive on Plus, $14 a month or $108 a year.

How many pages can one flipbook have?

3D Issue publishes no maximum page count anywhere on its site. Its stated limits are on the file rather than the page count: a maximum PDF size of 300 MB and maximum page dimensions of 15 by 15 inches, with fonts embedded, PDF 1.4 recommended, DPI in the 72 to 300 range and RGB preferred, in an article last updated on 2 November 2018. That 300 MB ceiling is generous for this category. What the plans cap is publications rather than pages, 100 included on Replicate, Flow and Studio alike, plus 1 Brand, and whether that allowance is annual or lifetime is not stated. Flipbooks AI sets no page cap either; what limits you is storage, 1 GB on the free plan.

Can I move my 3D Issue publications into Flipbooks AI?

Not by import. We found no documented migration path between the two, and a flipbook is generated from a source document anyway, so switching means uploading the same PDF here, which takes about a minute. Nothing we could fetch documents whether the interactive elements you added inside 3D Issue, the mobile article editions Flow produces or the pages built in Studio can be carried out of it, so budget time to rebuild anything that was not in the PDF itself. Keep your source PDFs and the move stays a re upload rather than a rebuild. The one thing you cannot bring is the old cloud.3dissue.net URL. A masked subdomain is your own DNS record, so the hostname stays yours, but every path underneath it has to be repointed.

Is 3D Issue a bad product?

No, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. Its reader access control is genuinely enterprise grade, with individual portal accounts, bulk import, expiry dates, fail locks and REST API authentication against your own database. Secure self hosting is included on all three plans with FTP, SFTP and FTPS auto upload and webhook publishing. ADA compliant publishing ships on Flow and Studio, which many competitors cannot answer at all, and Studio is a real authoring tool rather than a converter. We quote no star rating for it here: a search restricted to Capterra returned no 3D Issue listing, and we verified no score on any other review platform, so there is no number to date or attribute. The two tools solve different problems at very different prices.
